The Norway Page

The reason for the Norway page is our son Kevin moved to live and work in Stavanger, Norway in 2002 - we have since spent some wonderful times there and hope to spend more in the future - Christmas 2005 was a special time as all my family celebrated my 60th birthday in the cabin in Suldal - this was the reason for it being such a different Christmas birthday for me - for the first time in my life I got to celebrate my birthday on Christmas Day without the usual Christmas Day celebrations.

In Norway we celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve, dressing up, eating our traditional Christmas meal and opening all our “pressies” before midnight - after midnight my Christmas birthday was celebrated and I got to open my birthday presents (which bowled me over!!) and on Christmas Night we had my birthday party............. one of the many "firsts" that happened to me over Christmas and New Year and which will take up a whole chapter to relate - it's on it's way so look out for it.

OUR FIRST TRIP TO NORWAY - JULY 2002

Kevin was the first member of our Keogh family to go to University to study for a degree, then he continued to gain his Doctorate in Geology. When he gained this distinction he left us to start his new job with Statoil and his new life over the North Sea in Stavanger. This was an exciting time for us as it was a very different experience - for our first born was leaving us for foreign parts having been "in school" from the age of 4..... a student for 24 years !!!

The journey went well and from March to July we communicated by phone. Irene and I were eager to travel to Stavanger so we could see for ourselves that our boy was OK, and Stavanger was a "suitable" place for him to live.

We spent a week there, travelled to Bergen for a short stay, and were reassured that all was well and Kevin was in a "good place" - we really enjoyed the trip and got to like the ambience of Norway. So although it was a wrench to leave him we had no problems with the choice of country for him to start his working life. That was the start of our travels to Norway, which will soon take on even more significance as we will cross the North Sea as parents and grandparents and having met lots of good people with whom Kevin is making his life, the trips become more and more enjoyable.

From these trips I have selected some of the images that are memorable but cannot convey all the wonderful memories that we still have - so I hope you enjoy them....  Go to Pictures of Norway
