World Travels

I obtained my first passport in 1987 when I was 41 and was sent to Zimbabwe for a work assignment - my first trip abroad.

Our first family holiday abroad was also in 1987 when we travelled to Tenerife after many years of holidaying in the UK. Apart from a few trips down to Cornwall before and after Kevin was born, we then mainly caravanned in North Wales and enjoyed the experience while the children were growing.

Since then we have visited many places around the globe.

During my later working life at Croda I was able to travel to parts of the world I probably would otherwise never have seen. These are contained in the following section.

La Belle France Africa and The Far East The Americas Cruising European travels

La Belle France - recounts our many holidays camping in France in Southern Brittany, Northern Brittany, The Vendee, The Loire Valley, the Dordogne, Paris (Eurodisney), Normandy, Aquitaine (Biarritz), Cote d’Azur (Riviera) and Ile de Re.

Africa and The Far East - is my travels with work projects in Zimbabwe and the Far East countries of Taiwan (Kaohsiung), China (Shanghai), South Korea (Seoul)

America - I also travelled to Chicago and Atlanta with Croda to visit chemical plants there. I visited Waukegan and Lake Forest north of Chicago and a town called Dalton north of Atlanta, the carpet making capital of America.

North America - Lately Irene and I have holidayed in Canada (Calgary, Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper and Vancouver) while also visiting Kevin Monica ,Arne and Mina. We have cruised to Alaska up the Inside Passage on the Volendam (see  Cruising Page) and toured the west coast on a coach trip to California, Arizona and Nevada - the main highlights being Los Angeles (Hollywood); Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco as well as some small but very interesting places along Route 66 and others.

European Travels - in addition to our many French holidays we have visited other European destinations in Spain and Italy, Belgium and of course Norway (see Norwegian Page in Family History).

Cruising - in 2006 we found ourselves cruising the Mediterranean as a change and have since done a second Med cruise, a cruise down the Nile in Egypt, an Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Juneau and a Caribbean island/Atlantic Ocean cruise. All very different and very enjoyable.
